As a result of the worryingly dangerous situation in several parts of the world, the United Kingdom is suffering many of the problems that are confronting most other countries. On the other hand, the headlines that regularly appear in most British newspapers, regardless of their political persuasion, seem to suggest that the United Kingdom is suffering even more than most of its Western allies. This is complicated by the fact that the present Conservative Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, is going to have to call a General Election this year – at a time when, according to most, if not all opinion polls, the Labour Party is leading by around 20%, which could mean a complete disaster for the Conservative Party and its Members of Parliament.
This talk will present the situation and look at the question of the extent to which party political campaigning is impacting political decisions that can have a serious effect on ordinary people’s lives. The evening will also highlight important issues that could play a decisive role in the outcome of the forthcoming General Election.
There will be adequate time for questions and comments after the talk – indeed it is hoped that the audience both online and in the room will take an active part in the discussion.
