A new populist right-wing party is creating waves in the UK. Founded in 2018 as a successor to the Brexit Party, Reform UK at first made little impart until the charismatic Nigel Farage became Leader in 2024. A few weeks later, in the July 2024 UK General Election, the party received 14.3% of the votes. And now only one year later, the latest UK opinion polls suggest that Reform UK have overtaken the ruling Labour Party and that Nigel Farage might even become the next Prime Minister! This success has also been achieved at local level, where Reform UK now has overall control in a number of local authorities. Nigel Farage is even being predicted to have excellent chances of becoming the next Prime Minster.
But who is Nigel Farage? What does he and his party stand for? How have they achieved such a success? And what does this mean for Britain, and for Europe? Are there are parallels to the situation in Germany? These are the questions we will be addressing in this hybrid event together with our friends from our twin city Leeds.
