Die Partei „Reform UK“ wurde 2018 als Nachfolge-Partei der Brexit-Partei gegründet. Sie machte zunächst wenig von sich reden, doch bei den Parlamentswahlen 2024 erhielt sie 14,3 % der Stimmen und hat laut den jüngsten Umfragen die regierende Labour-Partei überholt.
Wofür steht die Partei? Warum hat sie über Nacht einen solchen Erfolg errungen? Und was bedeutet das für Großbritannien und für Europa? Diesen Fragen gehen wir gemeinsam mit unseren Freunden aus Dortmunds Partnerstadt Leeds nach.
A new populist party is creating waves in the United Kingdom. Founded in 2018 as a successor to the Brexit Party, Reform UK made little impart until 2024 when the - for some people - charismatic Nigel Farage became Leader. A few weeks later, in the 2024 General Election, the party received 14.3% of the votes. And now less than one year later, according to the latest UK opinion polls, they have overtaken the ruling Labour Party. This success has also been achieved at local level, where Reform UK now has overall control in a number of local authorities. Nigel Farage is even being predicted to have excellent chances of becoming the next Prime Minster.
But what does the party stand for? Why have they achieved such overnight sucess? And what does this mean for Britain, and for Europe? These are the questions we will be addressing in this hybrid event together with our friends from Dortmund's twin city Leeds.
